Seeing is Believing

Updated: Aug 19, 2021

Scripture: John 9:8-9(NLT)

8 His neighbors and others who knew him as a blind beggar asked each other, “Isn’t this the man who used to sit and beg?” 9 Some said he was, and others said, “No, he looks like him! But the beggar kept saying, “Yes, I am the same one!” 10 They asked, “Who healed you? What happened?”

Observation:

Here was a man that was blind from birth, and Christ recreated his eyes. Yes, you read that correctly. Christ didn’t do regular healing for this blind man in this chapter. He recreated his eyes from the very dust that was used to make man in the beginning. But this is beside the point because even though this amazing thing happens in the world and the man was living to tell the story, those who saw him didn’t believe it. Why was it so hard for the people to believe what they saw with their eyes? They didn’t even believe him after he told him. One person said he just looked like him. They come up with so many explanations to disapprove of what they were seeing. Yet I have heard that seeing is believing, but that was not the case here.

Application:

We live in a time where people will do everything to disapprove of what their eyes have seen. So one could ask, would it make any difference if Christ was letting miracles happen today, or what if Christ was using a disciple to raise people from the dead? Of course, someone who does not believe would start spreading a “conspiracy theory” of what really happened. So how can we make sure that we are getting the truth? First, if you are a believer, you have a guide. Check with him. Christ leaves the Holy Spirit to guide us onto all truth, don’t trust in your wisdom or man wisdom trust in God's wisdom that means praying and asking Christ to reveal the truth to you regardless of the situation, we must bring Christ in every situation that we need a truth reveal even if it has nothing to do with His word that is how He becomes a central part of our life. Check-in with Christ about everything so that you develop the muscle in your spiritual eyes and start all that you need to see and believe.

Reflection

How have you consulted with Christ about worldly understandings that you are struggling with?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank you for revealing the truth of the world to your children. Thank you for the Holy Spirit that You sent through your Son, Christ Jesus. Help me understand how to consult with the Spirit about everything every day so that I can grow in your truth and develop an eye that sees your wisdom in all things in the name of your Son Christ Jesus I pray.
